About Other Baroque Bow Instruments
There are several baroque instruments that do not belong to any particular family. I want to name just a few that can be built here in our workshop:
-
Viola d’amore
-
Viola da spalla
-
Lira da braccio
-
Lirone
-
Quinton
-
Baroque violas “da braccio” with 5 or 6 strings
-
Vihuela de arco family (Renaissance)
The constructive-acoustic schemes are the same as those mentioned above.

The Viola D’Amore
BUDAPEST
This viola with 7 strings on the fingerboard and 7 resonance strings was conceived for the international meeting of the “Viola d’amore Society” in Budapest 2014. The woods are the European classics, the design is my own. Particular is the double purfling with a Mexican Capulín wood border in the middle. This type of decoration was normally used only on fine furniture, not on instruments.
The viola “Budapest” was acquired by the virtuous Italian violist Giorgia Veneziano. How it sounds you may see in several videos by the same artist and as the sound background of my video: “Constructing the viola d’amore Bacchus”, in this case played by the violist Alexander Bruck in a concert in Mexico.
Sorry sold.
With each new instrument, the concept is refined in dialogue with highly experienced musicians. We would be happy to build a new instrument of the same model for you at the shortest possible time.
